Apologies, and a clarification. The full lyric in the title is “standin’ in the shadows the man I used to be,” which should assist with song verification.

I am simply not apt to post a word in incomplete form.

Further, I would like to clarify that there are two very different songs in play within the title and post.

It’s all from the same song. The Killers, yes, but they’re covering Joy Division. I can’t decide who I think it refers to. Someone who’s on a mission. Like Ben? Someone who has had to give up an old identity for a new one. Perhaps Locke? There’s also a timelessness to it that makes me think of Jacob.
